hey bluedog, i just want to write something as a response for your comments, it seems like you have personal grudge with the owner or the person whom you mentioned on your comments, well, being honestly, i had never had any complaint about bombay city restaurant, i and my wife have been going there since it opened, and all the time, we had good service, excellent food, clean and fine dinning room, and the prices are also reasonable for that area, i think your only problem is with the owner.

Horrible food. This place is an insult to indian food. Worst service. I have been to many Indian places around, by far this place is the worst. Quality of food is not good. They mix a lot of baking soda in their buffet food so it tends to fill you up quick. I visited this place with a group of 13 people and 7 of us had upset stomach and aches after our lunch bufet here. Will never go back to this place.

I have recently dined at Giorgio's Grille, in Zion. The food was not up to par, especially for what they are charging. Sweet potatoes are not an option with your steak. Also, the staff does not seem to be aware of the serving sizes of the dishes. We ordered a chicken sandwich for our 6 year old and the sandwich was bigger than his face. He could hardly fit his mouth on the sandwich to take a bite. The breadsticks were served cold twice. The spagetti with marinara sauce was bland as well. I really don't have anything good to say about my dining experience. I don't see this restaurant lasting very long.

Bluedog:

Glad you had a good experience -- I've heard both sides of the coin, still, but it seems to be about 70% good versus 30% not so good (but only 5% terrible).

I still drive by it on occasion and cringe. The owners have seen this site, and I've still had no request for a retry from them. Oh well!

Well, it has been over a year since the orginal poster wrote their review and Bombay City is still open!! HA HA

My husband and I were there about a week ago for dinner and had a very positive experience. The food was great as was the service. The prices I thought were in line and perhaps even better than the average run of the mill 'box' resturant, and WELL below what you get at the new area independent - Monkey Dish. In fact we started out intending to go to MD, but since it was so crowded and our previous experience there was bad for service (now, THEY are bad for service !!) , but the food pretty decent - we deicded to go to BC. My husband had been there before for buffet. I was glad we went there and very pleased with my dinner. I think it a great addition to the Lake County dining 'scene' and I hope they remain in business - and hopefuly more Indian reataurants, groceries and stores will continue to open in the area. It would be absolutely fantastic if Lake County had its own Devon Ave!

oh, and by the way...I was wearing my 'best' pair of worn out jeans and my trusty old mickey mouse T-shirt!

I hope they did -- I still refuse to go as a few friends of mine figured I was crazy for saying what I did, but they went and had absolutely the same experience. It seems that Iqbal is working harder to keep people smiling, but his wife (?) still rates a customer's service based on how they look. Considering that my wife and I eat out almost 5 nights a week and have the income to spend at good restaurants, how we dress should not be how we're served (t-shirts and jeans).

I travel to India often enough, and this restaurant does make good food, there is no doubt. I just can't swallow bad service -- especially repeated bad service.

Considering that they're staying packed, I'd have thought I was the only one with bad service, but I've received e-mails in recent months from others who also have had bad service. I'll send someone by next week for lunch to get another review up here soon.

Sorry for the late posting of your review, my spam filter was a little aggressive :)

Prior reviewer: I'm amazed to read your dissatisfaction with this restaurant. I actually found your review in the hopes of adding my hearty thumbs-up to any existing reviews, as my experience there last night was absolutely excellent. I can only assume that someone there read your criticisms and took them to heart.

I agree fully on the 5 stars for both server and chef staff; our glasses were never empty, the food arrived on-time and at a perfect temperature, and the flavors were so elegant and well blended - and the ingredients prepared with such care - that our dinner ended up being a bit of an emotional experience as well. The rich, creamy, luxuriously scented chicken makhani literally had us in tears.

A large dinner for two, with plenty to take home with us, cost about $35, which I don't consider to be overpriced.

I do plan to try them for both catering and take-out, so I will keep an eye out for your warnings. I am not one to tolerate bad service or incorrect orders, so they will not get away with mistakes or inconveniences with me.

I do recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates truly excellent Indian food served with care and a warm welcome.

Now I'm off to enjoy my leftover chicken makhani for lunch.

You're right. I'm a small business owner, though, and if a regular customer of mine (especially one who uses my services more than once or twice a month) has a problem, I'll fix it. In this case we're talking about 2 egg rolls that don't cost them even $1 to replace. In my businesses I've had customers complain about something months later and I'll still fix it -- that is what a good business owner does.

Nonetheless, they still refuse to replace the egg rolls (I like to remind them every time I place an order). As long as they refuse to replace them, I'll be happy to let others know so that they can double check their orders themselves!

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it.
